Museum Publications

The National Museum of Military History has a rich tradition in the study of museology and military history, the result of which is number of publications. Museum’s research department is established in 1968 and since then are dated its first books and catalogues. In 1973 is issued 1st volume of “Bulletin of the National Museum of Military History”. During the long history of the research department are issued the following publications: catalogues “Art Works”, “Battle Painting”, “Graphics and Sculpture”, “Catalogue of Photo Albums”; the albums “April Uprising”, “Russo-Turkish Liberating War”, “Relics in NMMH”, “Bulgarian Military Glory Through the Ages”, “Heroic Past”, “Patriotic War 1944 – 1945”, albums of the Polish, Czechoslovak, Hungarian and Romanian Armies; collections of documents “Bulgarian Volunteer Troops” in two volumes, “Bulgarians – Fighters for the Freedom of the Other Peoples”, “Varna 1444” and others. In recent times extremely useful initiative is issuance of short encyclopedic reference books on military themes as “Command of the Bulgarian Army During the Wars for National Reunion”, “Bulgarian Army in the First World War 1915 – 1918”, “Participation of Bulgarian Army in the First Balkan War 1912 – 1913”, “Military Monuments in Bulgaria”.

In 2011 the NMMH entered into the country’s publishing guild. Since then are issued the following books: “The Military Museums in Bulgaria. The Mutual History of the Early Years”, author – Sonya Penkova; “Almanac of the Land Forces in Bulgaria. Bulgarian Infantry”, Book I, authors – Sonya Penkova, Daniela Tsankova-Gancheva, Diana Ivanova; “The Museum Network in Bulgaria. Last Twenty Years 1989 – 2012, author – Sonya Penkova; “The Wisdom of a Century Old Oak Tree”, compiled by Stefanka Krasteva; “Praised by Vazov”, author – Stefanka Krasteva; “The Military Uniform in Bulgaria 1878 – 2004”, author – Daniela Tsankova-Gancheva; “Military Photography. Balkan Wars 1912 – 1913”, in three parts, author – Daniela Tsankova-Gancheva.

Publishing house of the NMMH has a clearly described cultural and historical mission and will to offer to its customers beneficial creations.
