The NMMH is Museum of the Year 2020
The National Museum of Military History received the highest distinction of the Bulgarian Museums Association for 2020. At the official ceremony, for the fifth consecutive year the Bulgarian Museums Association presented museum institutions with the Nasledstvo [Heritage] award, for their contribution to the preservation and publicizing of the country’s cultural heritage.
The Deputy Minister of Culture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Plamen Slavov presented the National Museum of Military History with the Museum of the Year for its exhibition The Army in Times of Change, which tracks the developments in the Bulgarian Army during the long transition from communism to democracy and confrons the various perspectives on the key issues related to the army and the post-1989 social and political changes.
The Nasledstvo is awarded in three categories. The Regional Historical Museum Academician Yordan Ivanov – Kyustendil, was distinguished for The Children and the Museum II. History and Tradition from the Hands of the Children project, in the Educational Initiative category. The Regional Ethnographic Open-Air Museum Etar received the prize in the Events and Audience Development category, for the Damson Cheese Feast.
