The National Museum of Military History named “Museum of the year”
The National Museum of Military History (NMMH) is recipient of the Grand Prize of Association Bulgarian Museums in the most prestigious Museum of the Year category. A jury composed of Assoc. Prof. Lyudmil Vagalinski (former long-time director of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum, BAS), Dr. Svetla Kazalarska (cultural anthropologist), Vesela Nozharova (art historian and curator), Dr. Nikolai Todorov (director of Regional Museum of History – Silistra) and Dr. Ekaterina Tsekova (director of the National Polytechnic Museum), selected the winners of the 2020 awards. The NMMH is distinguished for its most recent exposition “The Army in Times of Change”, which follows the developments in the Bulgarian Army through the long transition from communism to democracy and juxtaposes the various perspectives on key topics associated with the army and the post 1989 societal and political transformations.
This is the newest recognition for the entire team of the NMMH, and in the year of the Museum’s 105th anniversary. The award is especially cherished by the Museum not only because it is conferred by colleagues, who are most attuned to the challenges faced by the museum guild on a daily basis, but also because the recognition arrives amidst particularly difficult for all cultural institutions times. The Prize proves that despite recurrent lockdowns due to the pandemic, the NMMH continues to offer high quality innovative projects; expertly avoids conventional and sometimes monotonous museum interpretations, and thus transforms the Museum visits into an experience.
