Specially for the National Holiday the National Museum of military history presents the flags of freedom

In the presence of the minister of defence Krasimir Karakachanov and the chief of defence lieut.-gen. Andrey Botsev the exhibition „The Flags of the Bulgarian Volunteers“, dedicated to the 140-th anniversary of the Liberation, was officially inaugurated. It displays the five flags that represent the centennial Bulgarian strive for freedom.

„These flags carry our specific perception about the Russo-Turkish War nowadays. They convey through the decades the message of freedom that was born on March 3, the freedom that was defended by the Bulgarian Army at the battlefields of Mizia, Thrace, Dobrudzha and Macedonia for 60 years after the Liberation. Beneath these flags thousands have perished for and in the name of Bulgaria“, stated the director of the National Museum of Military History assoc. prof. Sonya Penkova.

The minister of defence Krasimir Karakachanov reminded that we don’t have the right to forget or be silent about the truth for the Russo-Turkish War, and that we must not devalue the participation of the Bulgarian volunteers. He stressed on the fact that our country did not receive its freedom for granted and that these flags are the symbol of the efforts and heroism of the Bulgarians with whose blood our national liberation and new army are born.

The exhibition „The Flags of the Bulgarian Volunteers“ may be seen on the National holiday March 3 when the museum will work with free admission. The flags with the exception of the Samara flag will be on display until March 11 in the working days of the museum.
