Our annual tradition, the “Memory for the Future” exhibition, showcases some of the most fascinating artifacts donated to the Museum throughout the recent years. Among them are items of prominent figures in Bulgarian history donated by their heirs, as well as items received from structures of the Ministry of Defence.
The exhibition presents emblematic exhibits: handwritten notes of Major General Georgi Abadzhiev, a German officer’s backpack from the First World War, of Major General Marko Nikiforov, swords of the notable Kutinchev line of officers, a Balkan War field flask, and a Mannlicher rifle bayonet, of the founder of Bulgarian battle painting Yaroslav Veshin, photographs of Hristo Kalfov – an officer and a politician, a silver inkwell, candles, and awards, of Lyuben Momirov – military lawyer and participant in the Balkan and First World Wars – and many other stimulating artifacts.
The modern face of the Bulgarian Army is outlined through valuable items and documents from the participation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria in NATO operations in Afghanistan, provided by Lieutenant General Lyubcho Todorov, items associated with the development of the Navy – part of the large donation of Vice Admiral Mitko Petev, a flight suit and pilot insignia of Gen. Miho Mihov, an ejection seat, a full pressure helmet, body armour, and other equipment and gear, received from military formations in the country.
The exhibition can be viewed until the end of February 2023.
