The educational programme “War and the Creatives” offers an interdisciplinary approach to the subject of war, combining history, fine arts, literature, photography and music. Through the works of artists, writers, poets and musicians – direct participants and witnesses to military events – students become familiar with the personal perspective of the artist in times of conflict. The programme encourages critical thinking, emotional engagement and interpretive skills, while supporting the teaching of history, literature arts and fostering dialogue on topics such as memory, values and human choices in times of war.
The educational programme is aimed at students in lower and upper secondary education and supports learning in history, Bulgarian language and literature and fine arts. Working with museum objects – works of art, photographs, sculptures, as well as literary works helps students to form skills for observation, analysis and interpretation of different sources, for understanding historical events through the personal experience of the artist. The programme encourages discussion and critical thinking on topics such as war, human experiences and the role of art as a testimony to historical memory.
