An open-air exhibition showcases the richness of the National Museum of Military History collections
Until July 16, residents and guests of Sofia can enjoy the open-air photo exhibition “Kaleidoscope of Memory”, dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the National Museum of Military History. Installed before the ‘Ivan Vazov’ National Theatre, it showcases the museum’s many different faces through iconic and little-known exhibits.
The exhibition demonstrates the breadth of the museum’s collections: from orders and decorations, personal arms, archival documents, and photographs, to jewellery pieces, rare coins, navigation devices, technical equipment, and other precious sources on the history of Bulgaria and Europe. Alongside iconic exhibits, residents and guests of the capital will also admire some unexpected objects that situate the museum beyond the traditional notion of a military history collection.
Beyond highlighting the role of the National Museum of Military History as a guardian of Bulgaria’s military historical heritage, the exhibition reveals the institution’s capacity to exhibit the past from a multitude of perspectives – thanks to the grand variety of artefacts the museum collects, preserves, and studies for 110 years now.
