War Through the Eyes of Creatives in the Newest Exhibition of the NMMH
On the day when the National Museum of Military History (NMMH) reopened after a brief closure, its newest exhibition – “War and the Creatives. The Path through the Dark” was presented. The exhibition is dedicated to three significant anniversaries in Bulgarian history – 140 years since the Serbo-Bulgarian War, 110 years since Bulgaria’s entry into the First World War and 80 years since the end of the Second World War, and took place on a forgotten date – the Day of Victories, the first official holiday of the Bulgarian Army.
“Our goal is to present wars not merely as a sequence of victories and unfulfilled dreams, but as experience and lived emotion – personal stories of people whose genome contains the narrative of war. We sought a different perspective – that of the creatives, deeply emotional, sensitive to the inhuman nature of war, and close to the ordinary person,” emphasized the Director of NMMH Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sonya Penkova, in her speech. She expressed gratitude to the Bulgarian National Film Archive for the partnership, to ARKA L.T.D. for the design, to Prof. Svetoslav Ovcharov and the actors who added depth to the exhibition narrative through their interpretations, as well as to the entire Museum team.
Among the guests at the opening were the Chair and members of the Defence Committee of the National Assembly, Mr. Iliya Milushev, Security and Defence Advisor to the President of the Republic, representatives of structures directly subordinate to the Minister of Defence, members of the artistic community, colleagues, and friends of NMMH. The event was also honoured with congratulatory letters from the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Minister of Defence, and the Central Military District, which expressed recognition of the Museum’s work and the significance of the exhibition for preserving historical memory.
The exhibition is realized through a project supported financially by the Ministry of Culture.
