The exhibition “Duty by Obligation: History and Perspectives” is dedicated to International Museum Day and the European Night of Museums initiative, which this year is under the theme – Museums and Controversial Histories: Telling the Untold in Museums.
The exposition highlights the history of conscription in Bulgaria from 1878 to 2007. With a variety of photographic and video material, some of which has been provided by our partners, the Bulgarian National Film Archive and the Military Television Channel, as well as uniforms and equipment typical of soldiers in different periods, it shows the training, exercises, and rituals characteristic of the military life. Through sound and images, visitors will have the opportunity to follow the intense debates “for” and “against” conscription and form their own opinion based on a historical interpretation of the topic.
