Exhibition “1916: Victories and Ordeals”

The  variety of photos captures the rush of the attack and the powerful “hurrah,” the pride of victory and life on the front lines in a year when the country was forced to fight on two fronts—the North and the South.

The exhibition focuses on balance, and therefore, alongside the bag of Major General Ivan Kolev, commander of the 1st Cavalry Division, and the scarf of Major General Panteley Kiselov , commander of the 4th Preslav Infantry Division, rings and a snuffbox made at the front by soldiers, as well as personal correspondence from a lieutenant of the 4th Preslav Infantry Division, also take their rightful place. The dramatic narrative of the events of 1916 is complemented by the epaulettes of Romanian General Constantin Teodorescu, commander of the Tutrakan Fortress, captured by the Bulgarian army in September exactly 100 years ago, and by a bullet, shell casings, and shrapnel fragments from the battles at Kaymak-Chalan Peak.  A specially prepared interactive timeline will help the audience understand how the global conflict unfolded in 1916.  As usual, the NIM team has provided touchscreens for the youngest visitors, helping them learn more about the exhibition in a fun and engaging way.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 15 May to 15 June. As usual, the NMHM team has prepared touch screens for the youngest visitors, which will help them learn more about Bulgarian military leaders and important events from the war in an engaging and entertaining way.
