The exhibition “The Bulgarian Army – 20 years part of NATO” is an initiative of the National Program marking the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Bulgaria’s NATO membership.
In our trademark approach, interpreting momentous events through the eyes of participants, the National Museum of Military History places the emphasis on the missions and the exercises of the Bulgarian Army in the years of the accession to the Alliance.
The exhibition’s account illustrates the efforts on the difficult path to building capabilities and compatibility with original artifacts – flags of the Bulgarian foreign contingents, uniforms, weapons, personal belongings of mission participants, maps, identifiers, documentary evidence, etc. The portrait of the Bulgarian Army is enhanced by numerous videos and photos from key exercises and events from the last 20 years. The NATO No. 4093 Bulgarian National Volunteer Company, formed in 1951 by Bulgarian political emigrants, is also featured. Interactive applications provide information on NATO’s structure and membership, as well as press reports on key moments from the accession efforts and the full membership could be accessed through.
The exhibition was realized with kind assistance from the Joint Forces Command, the Naval Forces, the Logistics Support Command, the Bulgarian National Television, and the Military TV Channel.
