The traditional annual exhibition “Memory for the Future” presents some of the most interesting exhibits acquired in 2023. Among them are personal effects, documents and a sabre sword of military surgeons Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Petar Gachev and Dr. Atanas Papazov, participants in the Balkan Wars (1912–1913) and the First World War (1914–1918), as well as German binoculars of the veterinary auxiliary paramedic Grigor Voulev, serving during the same period. Among the precious relics from the period of the Wars for National Liberation and Unification are also an Act of Award with a medal for participation in the Serbo-Bulgarian War (1885), belonging to the French citizen Jacques Battista Dallail, volunteer in the Tran Nr. 1 People’s Volunteer Cheta (Detachment); cap badge of the Macedonian-Adrianopolitan Volunteer Corps, donated by the descendants of Lieutenant Gavril Fakev; a photocopying set of photographer Kiril Nalbantski, who served in the Border Troops. For the very first time, this year the Museum presents purchased movables, identified as cultural property – rare military uniforms, paintings by Dimitar Gyudjenov and Stanio Stamatov, decorations etc.
Among the most interesting artefacts, donated by Bulgarian military units, are various models of cold weapons and firearms in service in the Bulgarian Army during the Wars for National Unification. Also of interest are an airplane ejection seat, a „Saturn” breathing apparatus, as wells as missiles and aerial bombs, now part of the Museum’s outdoor exhibition. In addition, the present-day development of the Bulgarian Army is also represented by the donated flag of the Bulgarian mission in Mali (2013–2023) (part of EUTM Mali) and by personally donated exhibits from Brig. Gen. Radostin Iliev (RO), Capt. Dr. Elisaveta Grancharova and Sr. Lt. Dr. Georgi Semovski.
The exhibition is open for visitors until 18 February 2024.
