In its one-million-items-rich collections, the National Museum of Military History has many curious artifacts, which are not typical for a military museum.
The Collection Hall with exhibits from the “Household items” collection shows the officer’s lifestyle of the 19th and 20th centuries and the daily and formal life of the Palace. Among the most curious artefacts are dinner sets made of silver and porcelain, jardinieres, candlesticks and numerous fine objects from the time of the Third Bulgarian State, created by famous European companies, some of which still exist today.
Some of the exhibits represent the earliest period of the reign of the first Bulgarian prince – Alexander I, and were donated to the Museum after his death by his wife, Countess Johanna von Hartenau, another items group belonged to the Sofia Officers’ Assembly, and a third group was used by the patrons’ regiments – 9th Plovdiv infantry regiment of Her Royal Highness Clementina and 2nd cavalry regiment of Her Royal Highness Maria Luisa.
