The exhibition “In War’s Shadow” can now be seen at the National Museum of Military History
The latest exhibition of the National Museum of Military History “In War’s Shadow” features the works of some of the greatest Bulgarian artists – Aleksandar Mutafov, Boris Denev, Vladimir Dimitrov – The Master, Georgi Mashev, Ivan Valchanov, Konstantin Shtarkelov, Nikola Kozhuharov, Nikola Tanev, Rayko Aleksiev and Stoyan Raynov.
The topic of war and art is among the favourite subjects of the National Museum of Military History. And that is not simply because of our art collections, rich in artwork and prominent artists, but because artists are a kind of touchstone of how far war has overstepped the boundaries of the humane. Their work is imbued with the pain and sores of war, it is a cry for peace and love for and between people. It says NO to war in a number of ways. The current exhibition presents one of them. The exhibited art shows no war scenes or heroes, but the beauty of nature and life as an antithesis to war, as a rising voice against the pain, the wounds and the destruction of humanity and the humane.
