THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MILITARY HISTORY WITH A VISITING EXHIBITION IN VIENNA
October 19, 2015
On October 21st at 19:00 in the gallery of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Vienna "Haus Wittgenstein" will be open the exhibition “World War One In Paintings of Bulgarian Artists.”
It presents 44 works of art - watercolor, oil painting and graphics, bequeathed to us by distinguished masters of the brush Aleksandar Zhendov, Aleksandar Mutafov, Boris Denev, Vladimir Dimitrov-Maystora, Georgi Evstatiev, Georgi Mashev, Dimitar Gyudzhenov, Konstantin Shtarkelov, Nikola Kozhuharov, Nikola Tanev, Panayot Hristov (Sirak Skitnik), Petar Morozov, Simeon Velkov, Stanyo Stamatov, Tseno Todorov, Yakim Banchev.
In their works the art in Bulgaria for the first time confronts directly with the horror and pain of the wounded, the grief of the orphans, the refugees, the mothers mourning their sons who never came back, and with the destruction - physical, moral, psychological. Their works contrast “the roar of the everlasting triumphs” with the the human urge for life protection and present the story of the war price.
The exhibition is a part of series of initiatives of the National Museum of Military History to draw attention to the 100th anniversary of the First World War and to Bulgaria entering it. The exhibition can be viewed in the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Vienna until November 11, 2015.
